In southern NJ we are the third largest sweet potato growing area in the
country, all I can say is sweet potatoes like our oppressively long hot humid
summers and seem to be planted in very sandy soils with 1/2% OM.. On rich soil
the tubers grow to the size of foot balls and are worthless as a market item
and usually sold in bins for deer bait. I know one guy who grows the crop to
sell only as deer bait. Cane sorghum has been grown in NY as greenchop for
dairy cows. If your season will grow a good field dried grain corn crop it
should grow sorguhm...Bob.
