If these are "Cherokee purple," I found them to be the most thin-skinned of
about 25 different heirlooms I trialed at the former Indian Creek Community
Farm, Harleysville PA.
They were difficult to bring to maturity without beginning to break down --
but also had a beautiful flesh color, distinctive murky skin tone and great
taste.

Typical combination of plus-minus characteristics that will keep heirlooms in
the delightful domain of local, direct food systems if careful farmers can
manage their tenderness with grace and compassion.
