As much as you may not like it, this is smart marketing
on the part of the seed sellers. By building up
their company brand name, e.g., Johnny's, and offering
a variety of interestingly named brand products, e.g.,
Galactic and Garnet, customers develop loyalty to
specific seeds and are less likely to shop for them
elsewhere, or as commodities, thereby driving the
price and company profitability down.
Farmers could enhance their own profitability by
employing more double branding methods.
The only way for the buyer to compare with certainty
is by genetic testing. How many of us are willing
to spring for that?
Food for thought.
Regards to you all. Hope things have warmed up
where you are.
