Once mine turned very black, I picked them. They seem to ripen deep inside
the bush first.

Did you eat them raw? Any effects?

Checked out the site, but it's for the "other" huckleberry -- the one that's
related to blueberries (native to the US, rather than the Solanum that's
native to Africa.) :-( Still need something to do with the Solanum
huckleberries!
