In my area strawberries are selling for $2.25 - $3.50 a quart (farmers'
market). The strawberries are just excellent this year.
Are you noticing a difference in taste?
Farmer in the Del
Hi, happy to hear the strawberries in your area is doing so well, here they are lacking sweetness, not too many sunshine hours in June!! A customer told me that one of our larger growers in the area got on the radio asking customers to just come and pick - they were rotting. Good thing that we are getting some sunshine in this week. I'm happy that prices went up I just didn't expect so high (they've been the same price for nearly 10 yrs - I remember going out to pick berries with my husband when I first met him - they were $1.00/lb upick, 1.50 they pick). I've been told due to our hike in utilities and petrol almost all food prices have gone up (cost to greenhouse, store and transport). Gas is expected to go up to $1.10/Litre this summer - ouch, we'll see if it actually happens. Oh by the way, here in BC strawberries are selling at 2 - 2.50/pint and 4.50/1.5 quart - costs less to purchase by the pound. Jacqueline
