After a while it is a little too much of a bother to put on shoes and coat, so you go barefoot.

Wow! I thought we had it bad when I was a kid! We used a chamber pot at night in the winter time and oh, was it cold to sit on! It was my job to take my grandmother to the outhouse - she was blind and walked with a cane. What a job that was! I wish I could remember the stuff she used to tell me.
