Hi again!
I'm not certified organic this year, so I'm buying seed-starting mix from a local greenhouse business. It's fresh, not used. And actually, I think his mix would satisfy regulations.
I use it as a base for specialized needs. I add kelp and sifted compost to most of it, and some potting soil for plants that will be grown on for nursery sales.
This nursery is also starting twenty flats and growing them on for me this year. He has an automatic 512 seeder and will keep them in one of his greenhouses for six weeks.
I can collect them three or four at a time for potting up into six-packs to be grown on in my cold frames and hot beds, or even in my own unheated greenhouse if we have it built by then.
I'm paying $6 per flat for this labor- and space-saver. Hey hey, it's sure worth it to me!
