Shari, I'm curious. What were the rationale for a mixed board?
You are bringing up something important that we have never done and that is to elect a board. A few other members of the association have privately brought up the need for it. As it is, the market manager and votes at the market meetings determine the decisions we make. What are the benefits in having a board and why would you want members who are not involved in selling at the market?

Del - hi, I'm not Shari, this is Jacqueline here, but we have a system that is similar to Shari's. Our reasoning for having mixed market is to ensure the following:
1. Farmers on board: this makes sure that the farmers market is run within the means and abilities of the farmer.
2. City members on board: as the market is in the city the City members ensure that how the City views the esthetic and moral values are reflected in the market, ie: City doesn't allow peddlers or beggars - this too cannot occur at market.
3. General population on board: this allows all to see the view of the people, to ensure that they are receiving what they see themselves as receiving at market. ie: farmers, fresh local produce, clear labels and prices.
