Del - thanks so much for your discussion this morning I'm going to print it
out and pass it on. You are absolutely right that it falls to the manager,
if there is one (and, if not there should be!) but do most markets pay the
manager sufficiently to have ownership of what happens at the market?

I certainly can't answer this but know that at our market - where we do have
clearly defined rules (everything organic and this year certified - no
exceptions) it took a really p.o.'d farmer to finally oust the peddler - and
she was full peddler - so obvious it was ridiculous! So now I'm wondering
how to go about replacing our manager. Our market is sponsored by a private
school, its a small market maybe 20 vendors at most and we each pay $15
every Saturday. I don't know how much of that the manager gets back but
even if it was all of it it isn't much.

I hate the politics of this kind of thing and yet I feel that we need a new
manager. One who will enforce the rules and get us more exposure.

Okay - I sort of got off my original reason for responding- sorry. I wanted
to point out to everyone in case they haven't seen it yet - Lynn Byczynski
is offering a free special issue for farmer's market seller's and among
other issues it has a discussion on undercutting prices. If you'll contact
her she will send it to you. It might be a good thing to hand to your
manager (or mine) or a person who comes in with a single item and cuts the
hell out of everyone else's prices and never comes back. Email Lynn at
growing4market AT earthlink.net.

I want to thank Liz for all the work you have done to put us back in contact
with each other - after such a good winter of conversation I felt so lost
the other day when I realized I couldn't hear from anyone, didn't realize
how important it had become to me! It feels good to see the market farming
file fill up on my screen.

Thanks Willie for filling it so quickly! Just the little bit of name and
address work I did made me realize how much work all of this can be!

And Bob and Bonnie Gregson - please don't leave the list - your input is
always so good and balanced - we need it.

I am going to try and put this whole market discussion together in some form
for a hand out - will let you know if I accomplish it. it sounds like most
of us need it.
