hi list,
I'm wondering how many of you lease farmland and how much you pay for it.
We currently lease 4-5 acres at a cost of 10% of our gross. This
originally included irrigation, electricity and use of some equipment.
When my partner first made the arrangements, he was just starting out at
and it seemed like a great deal since he had little equipment. Now, 5
years later, with 2 of us, we have our own equipment (except the 4-wheel
tractor) and feel like we're paying too much... especially since the
privelege of using the equipment was taken from us mid-season last year.
There's a bunch of infrastructure put in over the years and we'd like to
stay, but would like to offer the owners a different type of payment.
I should add that we are in Portland, Oregon and the farm is actually
in the city limits, but in the hills in a *PRIME* location.
Thanks for any input on this.
