Hi. The same organisms that cause damping off cause wirestem. The plants
will never fuly recover but they may yield small heads.
The remedies are:
Change your starting medium--make it a bit lighter so it
drains better.
(I'm assuming you use a compost-based medium. If you
use peat/lite, try adding
compost--beneficial organisms will help you out)
Don't keep your seedlings as wet as you probably have been
keeping them.
Increase air circulation with a small oscillating fan if you
have to keep the greenhouse closed.
As much as possible, get fresh air into the greenhouse--if
you have to heat when you vent, it's worth it.
If all else fails and you can't control the organism any
other way, buy the antibiotics that people have been talking about on this
list and add them to the media.
