I've found that the hopper needs to be filled up pretty close to the
"full" line. I've had problems, too, especially with bell bean (winter
cover) seed- the seeder spits seeds out the top, seeds become jammed
between the seed plate and the side of the hopper, front wheel becomes
jammed and won't turn. I've also used the seeder with spinach, and find
the results to be spotty and inconsistent. Sometimes I have to go down
the row 2 or 3 times to put out enough seed, which usually results in
having to do a lot of thinning. For the price, I think the seeder is
flimsy and almost unuseable. The one crop I've had success with is
buckwheat, which I use as a quick summer cover between cash crops, to
add phosphorus.
