Tax law change would encourage more food donations
A new bill could make it easier for farmers to contribute food to food banks,
pantries and homeless shelters. If adopted, the Hunger Relief Tax Incentives
Act would allow farmers, restaurants and food production companies to claim
the full market value of food donated to such charities as a tax deduction.
Under current tax law, the deduction does not cover expenses incurred by the
businesses. Senator Dick Lugar introduced the legislation, let him know if
you support it: senator_lugar AT lugar.senate.gov - 02/21/2000 03:37 p.m.
