OEFFA Announces 21st Annual OEFFA Conference

The Ohio Ecological
Food and Farm Association is proud to announce its 21st
Annual Conference,
themed, "Our Biological Heritage, Seeds of the Past,
Seeds for the
Future." The Conference will be held March 4th & 5th, 2000,
at Northridge School,
in Johnstown, Ohio. Experts from Ohio and around the
country will be on
hand sharing sustainable agriculture production and
marketing techniques
through a wide variety of workshops and plenary
speeches. The OEFFA
conference is Ohio's largest annual sustainable and
organic agriculture
gathering with approximately 700 consumers, farmers,
and retailers in
attendance.

Don Bixby, Executive
Director of the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy,
will present a
plenary session entitled "Heirloom Seeds and Breeds for a
Sustainable Future."
Cass Peterson, Market Gardener from Western
Pennsylvania, will
present sessions entitled "Small Farm Diversification,"
focusing on diverse
revenue streams as insurance for small farmers. In
addition, CR Lawn,
Director of Fedco Seeds, will present the role of
heirloom seedstocks
and their role in agricultural democracy and
sustainability.

The conference will
feature over 40 workshops on sustainable and organic
food production,
marketing, and networking. Workshops include topics such
as Working with Draft
Horses, Transitioning to Organic Grain Farming,
Advanced and Beginner
Berry Production, Free Range Livestock Systems,
Producing Bedding
Plants, Developing in Home Food Systems, The Role of Rare
Breeds in Sustainable
Agriculture, Farmers' Market Sales, and more. In
addition, a 4 hour
short course on organic greenhouse maintenance and
production will be
offered during the two day conference.

Other activities will
include a trade show for ecological entrepreneurs, a
Saturday night contra
dance, child care services and children's conference,
and Ohio grown and
organic meals prepared by OEFFA's Chef David Tidd.
Attendees will have
the opportunity to browse the Organic Trade Show, which
features organic and
sustainable product vendors from across Ohio and the
Midwest.

Registration fees for
the conference begin at $45, with volunteer discounts
available. Child care
is available. Early registration deadline is 2/10/00.
