Happens to me too but no harm done.

Thought some more about the drought in CA and really it is frightening to find how important an ecosystem is for normal rainfall to take place and how little those that make the rules care about ecosystems.

When water evaporates from the sea surface cloud formation and aggregation into clouds can only take place when there are sufficient condensation nuclei present. Most important here is dimethylsulfide (DMS) that is formed by certain plankton organisms when too much sunshine is hitting the water. This is a way for the plankton to regulate solar heating and so achieve optimal living conditions for themselves.

For actual rain to fall these minute droplets (max .2mm in diameter) need to aggregate further and then freeze. And for this to take place certain bacteria may play a most important role. It is known that certain Pseudomonas microbes are capable of making water freeze at 5-6 degrees C above zero. These Pseudomonas microbes live on certain plant species and they are known to be ripped of their host by wind and rain after which they get quite high in the atmosphere. And this is probably where a positive feedback loop comes into play. Less rain--> less Pseudomonas in the air--> less rain. This is probably the reason for Lawrence's Law in meteorology that says that once a certain weather regimen has established you will probably get more of the same.

I would guestimate that this is where massive export of food and use of chemicals, pesticides and artificial fertilizers are playing a role. I would think that this could very well reduce Pseudomonas populations on plants in the first place.
North Africa started off as the food basket for Rome and the Roman empire and it took them hundreds of years of massive exports to become a desert. And the people there fought the drought with enormous engineering works, underground cisterns and irrigation channels on a massive scale. Eventually they failed.
CA of course is speeding things up with massive use of chemicals.
