Certain agricultural ways, methods, practices and knowledge still practiced in Northern New Mexico, though based on ancient knowledge, are still being implemented by Hispanic farmers and ranchers in the area.

Juan Estevan Arellano has recently compiled in English, "Ancient Agriculture, Roots and Application of Sustainable Farming," (2006, Ancient City Press, Santa Fe), a book based on a version printed in 1539 by Gabriel Alonso de Herrera in Spain. Arellano is an Embudo agricultural activist, farmer and acequia mayordomo, as well as an award-winning poet and novelist.
