How cool! Craig Rogers, the author of this article, lives just a few miles from me here in Patrick County, Virginia. And boy, is he right about how much money we (don't) make. I'm a member of Field to Friends, a local organization of producers, and it's for darn sure none of us are getting rich.

I was surprised by some of the comments on his article that implied he was a "hobby" farmer. Or implied that if you're not making a lot of money, you're not a "real" farmer. A farmer used to be someone who grew the food for his family and also sold it at a local village, not someone who operated a billion-dollar-a-year corporation.
