The effects of subsidies are incredibly perverse. In the DVD "Poisoned Waters" (I highly recommend) Robert Kennedy Jr. says to the interviewer: "Show me a polluter and I'll show you a subsidy." It's really true: In the most literal sense farm subsidies underwrite some of our worst pollution problems.
