The people who commented on his article seem to have set him straight pretty well.

The stumbling block always seems to be the mistaken idea that large growing operations are required. You'd think some of these people would be old enough to remember Victory Gardens, or at least remember their parents talking about them (or smart enough to have read about them, if nothing else). Yet the fallacy persists that the only way to provide adequate food for large numbers of people is to grow it at a distance from where it's going to be used, grow it in huge monocropped fields, and then transport it to the point of consumption (or at least the point of retail sale).
