FOODSHED MARKET Internship
The Foodshed is seeking a motivated, organized and internet-savvy individual
looking to gain hands-on experience in the management of a weekly farmers
market.
The Foodshed is a weekly indoor farmer's market located on Atlantic Avenue
near downtown in Brooklyn, opened Sundays from 11 to 5. The market is run in
support of The Commons, a community and educational center.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Help set up and operate the market. The market happens every Sunday from
11-5.
Organize promotional events, including cooking demonstrations, talks and
workshops.
Link with relevant neighborhood and citywide partners for innovative
collaboration.
Help implement EBT/Foodstamps system and work with staff on EBT outreach.
Brainstorm with market founder on strategy for improved marketing.
Help maintain the website.
Update Facebook, Twitter.
QUALIFICATIONS
Reliable, organized and hardworking
Interest in and experience with farmers' markets, improving food access &
regional food systems
Experience and a strong interest in marketing and social networking
Ability to work quickly and independently
Strong interpersonal skills
INTERNSHIP DATES
The internship begins next semester, by January 10, 2011, with the option to
start earlier. Interns must commit to 15 hours per week for a minimum of 12
weeks. At least 6 hours must be on Sundays to work at the market. Otherwise,
schedule hours are flexible.
COMPENSATION
This is an unpaid position with the potential for paid work at the
completion of the internship, based on the intern's performance and
interest. We are happy to coordinate with your school or department for this
internship to count as course credit.
