I am reposting my reply:

Since you are upping the ante here:o) - I disagree with their premise that meat and dairy is the cause of obesity in the US.  There is an issue with CAFO meats/dairy(as well as pasturization/homogonization) and their connection with the subsidies and thus the cheap pricing but eating  meat and dairy does not make you fat.  As a matter of fact, if you are eating pasture raised meats and raw dairy as well as lard, butter and other saturated fats (coconut oil included) you will likely loose weight especially if you stop eating grains and sugars.  Consensus is that our obesity rates are related to the food pyramid that tells us to eat large amounts of grains as well as all the HFCS that folks are eating and all the processed foods.  There is movement a foot to change the pyramid to have veggies on the bottom (biggest part), then meat/dairy/eggs, then fruits, then grains/sugars.  If followed this would substantially curb most health issues that are in the forefront today especially obesity.  More information on this type of eating can be found at www.westonaprice.org - weston price was a dentist that looked into the health of indiginous cultures around the world in the early 1900's. He compared dental/bone health and disease with diet patterns and found some pretty interesting generalizations about diet - including the fact that most healthy cultures that ate grains, ate them fermented.  Lots of good reading over there.

Aliza
