Thanks Norm. Good to know. My suggestion was for high alkaline clay, though. I must have forgot to mention the pH.
The aluminum would be enough to be tied up by the clay itself and the action is on the structure of the soil, not meant to be so much for treatment of the plants.
(My clay tends to blunt the whole plant all on its own...;-) )

Hello Dan,
I would be careful before treating a whole field with
aluminium,especially if it is acid soil. Aluminium makes root tips blunt,
whilst calcium sharpens the tips. It is costly to negate the action of
aluminium.
