Flax has a short growing season, but needs a consistent and regular amount of
rain (or irrigation) or it dries out. The soil benefits from the roots,
which decompose promptly. I am not sure how frost resistant the seedlings
are.
The seeds are linseed, high in Omega oils. Of course, the fiber is linen.
You might want to be more precise about the names, because "flax" in New
Zealand means a plant that has a linen like fiber, but grows like a Mexican
Maguey!
