Sustain Taos Presents
Public Forum on GMOs
Wednesday, August 13th
7:00 PM
Taos Convention Center, Alcalde Room 121 Civic Plaza Drive
Presentation by Charles Martin of the Sustainable Agriculture Science Center

Genetically engineered crops, transgenic research, plant patenting and
cultural/intellectual property rights are increasingly becoming issues
for New Mexico farmers.

Topics will include:
1) What are GMO crops?
2) What GMO crops are currently being grown in New Mexico?
3) What are the effects of GMO crops on crop genetic diversity?
4) What are the implications of the recent announcement of
plans to conduct transgenic chile research at NMSU on small scale and
traditional farming practices in northern NM?
5) What are plant patent laws and how do they affect
small-scale growers?
6) What are the legal and liability issues associated with GMO
crops?

Many growers are unaware of GMO crop and plant patenting issues. This
will be an opportunity for growers and the general public to learn
more about the issues and to share opinions on how to address them.
