Because the way the system works they only get pennies a day and that's
slave labor. Remember the old flick, Cool Hand Luke? The companies that use
prison labor are making a killing and lobby for more draconian laws to keep
nonviolent inmates incarcerated longer and longer for future profits. Of
course all that deprives families of breadwinners, and guess who gets to
support them? You do.
