What someone needs to explain to him is that it made India self-sufficient in the short term but damaged it for the long term with poisoned water and soil due to the chemicals the government provided almost free to farmers.
The so called Green Revolution was possible only with massive inputs of fossil energy, fuel for the tractors and water pumps, natural gas for the fertilizers, oil for the chemicals, etc. It also required massive amounts of water. The net result was indebtedness to the providers and ever larger industrialized food producers, all totally unsustainable.
