Any of the three Square Foot Gardening books by Mel Bartholomew are also
helpful. His books have excellent info on making the most of vertical
growing space. Suggestions for structures are included.

If you are in an area where the soil is very thin and mostly rocks are just
underneath, another successful strategy is lasagne gardening.
