Ecology Action (John Jeavons and the How to Grow More Vegetables... people)
reported in a newsletter last year that they planted corn on 15" centers
and then, once it was bigger (about 12 inches high I think), they planted
pinto beans in between the corn plants. I am planning to try that this
year since I had the same problem with pole beans encircling the corn
stalks and squash is very problematic in SC because of several generations
of squash bugs and squash vine borers. They use 5' beds, I use 4'.
