DIXON, N.M. (AP) - Dixon grower Matt Romero isn’t out of business just
because it’s winter.

Romero is growing and selling fresh greens, such as spinach, by using cold
frames that protect crops from the weather and allow him to produce salad
crops even when it’s cold outside.

Romero says he also gets top prices for the crops because of a lack of
competition. Since November, he’s been selling lettuce and spinach for $8 a
pound. Those crops normally go for about 35 percent less.
