Dear Friends,

PRAKRUTI One Day Kelve-Saphala Organic Farms Visit

Sunday 12 December 2004

Regions upto Valsad, Nashik and Pune have become, in last 200 years, decadant hinterland to Mumbai while providing services and supplying food to exploding Mumbai. This strange relationship has had an adverse impact on the local environment, natural beauty and tranquility. Urban sprawl has aggravated the situation. It is now difficult to locate any area not affected by this onslaught.

Region on the north towards Valsad is turned into grassland for milch cattle stabled in Mumbai for meeting Mumbaikars' thirst for milk. It is relieving to observe in Kelve and Saphala located within 100 km of Mumbai, residents pursuing sustainable agriculture while supplying fresh flowers and cereals to Mumbaikars at affordable prices. Many Mumbaikars drawn to Kelve-Saphala for   the  weekend have resisted the temptation of putting up mansions and multistoried buildings and pursue sustainable agriculture consciously avoiding the use of synthetic fertilisers and pesticides, hybrid and GM seeds and heavy agricultural machinery. Thus in Kelve and Saphala dedicated old residents and earnest Mumbaikars working in harmony with nature provide a welcome respite worth feeling and appreciating.

We have pleasure in presenting a one day Kelve-Saphala Organic Farms Visit on Sunday, 12 December 2004. The Visit covers 300 km round travel in chartered bus/es from Dadar Khodadad Circle to the region, observing original residents and Mumbai weekenders following sustainable agriculture in their respective farms, having snacks enroute and traditional lunch prepared from organically grown cereals and vegetables served in a farm, meeting enlightened farmers at a central location to appreciate their welcome practices and strolling on the Kelve beach to watch the Sun setting along with glowing twilight to light up the earth's regions further west. Kelve beach undoubtedly rivals Girgaon Chowpati and Juhu Beach in expanse and yet excels exceedingly both of them in tranquility.

Charges: Rs 325/- per participant.

Last date for registration: Tuesday, 7 December 2004. Intending participants are requested to register on the Kelve-Saphala Organic Famrs Visit Registration Form and payment with the Prakruti Office or Rajiv Bhatt or Priya Salvi. Seats are limited and registration is likely to close on receiving the requisite number of requests. Looking forward to having you with us in this stroll in nature, we remain, yours sincerely
