Hi guys -

Just back from the farm and discovered your gel discussion. There was a tip
in the Park Seed email newsletter about a year ago that mentioned using
jello as a planting medium for things like carrots. Except, you added more
water than you would use for traditional jello. The theory being that you
prepare a jello mixture, incorporating the seeds and use a turkey baster to
lay down rows or lines of the seed/jello mixture. Advantages listed were
that you could actually see where you placed tiny seeds, the moisture in the
partially liquified jello would keep seeds moist to aid in germination since
it wouldn't run down into the soil, and that the sugar(?) would act as a
kind of plant food. ( Not too sure about the last point. )

Sounds kinda similar to the gel rooting. Although, I can just see someone
from a horticultural group having vapours over the tropical colour stripes
throughout your garden if they visit too soon after sowing.

Could you not just add rooting hormone to water, instead of going the gel
route? Or, use jello instead of gelatine?

Cheers, Bizmark.

Ps - we had loads of snow up in Creemore - hope everyone managed to get
through the storm (?) with their hydro intact.
