Title: Re: scion wood
Hi Joe,

No problem with any of your requests - I have all three. The Centennial fruited for the first time this past summer. The fruit is in the same size range as the Dolgo Crab, but with yellow and red colouration, not the intense Dolgo carmine. I meant to take a photo, but by the time I remembered, the local wildlife had enjoyed a night buffet.

As for timing, I'm going to try and get to the scionwood earlier in the dormant season. I had a talk about timing for cutting scionwood with Shelly Paulocik, from Woodwinds, and she's thinks that earlier is better, since the buds won't have had to endure the various winter stresses of freeze/thaw cycles and harsh, drying winds. It seems quite logical to me, so I'm going to give it a try this year. Can let me know if you chip budding or tongue and whip grafting, since it can make a difference for length of branches, etc.

I have also added my list of apple varieties, plus my most wanted list, for anyone who wants to have a look, or recognizes a few varieties in their possession.

Cheers,  Bizmark

ps - I love Ashmead's Kernel - picked up a bunch when I was in Michigan in Sept. - had to force myself not to eat them too fast. They were fantastic then, so, I wasn't able to save one or two to taste in the new year. I did manage to pick up a couple bushels of Golden Russet from some apple folks near Creemore, which should supply the family all the way into winter. Yum, yum. Can't wait till our own trees can support us with fruit well through the winter.

Hey Joe,

Thanks for the lead. They have about ten or more trees that are on my most wanted list. I should also let you know that I received a lead this afternoon about another heritage orchard, that closed up shop for a while, that may be becoming active again. I'm going to call the owner in the next day or so, and will try and get the scoop. I'll post info to the list if the news is accurate. They are also out west. Do you want me to send you a list of what I have on hand? Scionwood for many of my varieties is still a year away, but I can always try and squeak something out if possible.

Cheers to all, Bizmark.

I was searching the InterNet for scion wood and a came across "Bright Farm Scion Tree List". It had a note that scion wood would be available in February but there did not seem to be a way to contact them. Are you the contact? Does one have to be a member of the Seed and Plant Sanctuary for Canada to obtain scion wood?

with thanks,  Joe
