How'd your spraying with the older equipment work out?
Hi biz,
The sprayer tune up was just finished. All it needs is a new tire, as the winter has left one of them flat. Tires are never an issue on a farm (lots of free, used, bald tires abound).
The only mjor problem is that the spray hose is very old and weak. You know how rubber becomes weak after years of outdoor exposure. The sprayer pressure has to be kept low, for fear of the hose not taking full pressure. Since the sprayer is 50 years old, it is debatable if new hose should be bought, although, mechanicly the sprayer will last another 50 years.
Hoping for the hose to be changed this season.
Keep in mind how farmers think. You can buy a lot of apples for the cost of the new hose, and spray chemicals. Very pragmatic choices. As long as the old equipment runs, the apples are safe. Added expense, for poor return is not tolerated.
Later,
Tom
