I would love to see the City of Durham do the same thing. I'm not sure $2500 would do much towards any of the things I desire though. I am curious - what would $2500 do for neighborhood WiFi? Access points? Would the city pay for the bandwidth? Where would the bw come from?
I would love to see fiber or something in the communication infrastructure upgraded. <shrug> It just doesn't seem like a lot of money to do much with.

So, a friend at the City of Raleigh has been encouraging me to organize my (new) neighborhood so that it can become eligible for a Neighborhood Improvement Grant of up to $2500.
The grants are meant to improve neighborhoods (duh). Most projects are long the lines of putting up signs in the neighborhood, organizing a community watch, adding new landscaping, etc. Being a geek, I thought I'd see what might be done with technology.
So, I'll put it out to my fellow geeks: how would you geekify your neighborhood with a grant? Set up a community network (WiFi or otherwise)? Design and host a website for the community? Buy security systems and make it a gated community (kidding, of course)? How would you use technology to improve *your* neighborhood?
