If this person is a doctor, you might also check with the North Carolina
medical board. Also the landlord of the building where the practice
used to be located. But it sounds like he didn't file a bankruptcy
action.

Also, there are a handful of attorneys who are qualified to serve as
bankruptcy trustees in each federal district. Typically they serve as
trustee but also represent other bankrupt parties as private clients. I
think they are listed on each bankruptcy court's website. You could
contact their offices and ask if they have this person in their records
as a debtor, or even as a client of the firm.

What indication do you have he was in bankruptcy? Why would the trustee
have your records? Sometimes people say they are in order to get
creditors to lay off, but don't actually file.
