This School of Information and Library Science hosted workshop might be of interest to many of you. Others, please forgive my sending it.

Are you planning to open your own business? Are you an entrepreneur
thinking of alternative ways of using your talents? If so, you have an
opportunity to participate in a 20-hour workshop hosted by the School of
Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill.

"Business Ownership Preparation, A Workshop for Future Employers" is a
concentrated, possibly life changing, workshop offered in five days. The
workshop will be held November 5, 6, 7, 8 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. in room
207 of Howell Hall and on November 9 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. in room 209 of
Manning Hall on the UNC at Chapel Hill campus.

Instructed by the world-renowned authority on venture financing,
entrepreneur, management consultant, securities expert, author, lecturer
and winner of numerous awards, Arthur Lipper III, the workshop will focus
on topics such as:

* Business Accounting
* Business Law
* How to Raise Capital
* Human Resources
* Marketing
* Business Plan Development
* Competitive Factors
* Measuring Success

Attendees can expect to leave the workshop with sufficient knowledge and practice
to construct a comprehensive business plan.

Team leaders are selected and participants are organized into "fire" teams

Tuesday, November 6
Business law overview
The customer and their needs
Marketing - the plan, the need to sell, the estimated cost
Planning the business

Wednesday, November 7
The people creating success
Workout bank loan officer - Business failure and loan default experience
and causes
Terminating a business with honor and dignity
Raising capital

Thursday, November 8
HR professional - Human resource practices and procedures
Basic accounting
Teams scheme, plot and plan their businesses, including deciding how much
money will be required and what they will offer investors

Friday, November 9
What has worked and what hasn't worked
Executive Summary of the business plan
Investment thoughts
Review

In addition, Arthur Lipper will be available for some one-on-one discussions outside of the workshop.

The cost of this first annual workshop will be $1,495 and $900 for
registered students with a valid ID and includes the workshop, workshop
materials, "The Larry and Barry Guide to Entrepreneurial Wisdom," meals and a
certificate of completion. A group discount of three or more is available, which
is $1395 each for non-students and $825 for student attendees.
