I'm looking to record simple voice audio
For less than what you'd pay for studio time you could easily purchase a descent-enough microphone, certainly not as good as you'd get in the studio, but certainly good enough for plain spoken voice. The main thing a studio would bring to the table is a quiet space and good acoustics. The quiet you may be able to get by finding a quiet spot in a house-- you can also get lower noise by recording with a laptop running from batteries, as noise can often seep in through the power supply. The acoustics will probably not make a difference with spoken voice as 99% of the time the studio would be doing a little reverb in post anyway.
