OVERVIEW:
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) National Office seeks an experienced Internet Operations Manager to run all aspects of Website development and maintenance for the nation's largest civil liberties organization. The ACLU's interactive Website supports the organization's public education, litigation, legislation and development programs. The Internet Operations Manager reports to the Director of Information Technology.
The Internet Operations Manager is responsible for maintaining and assuring the proper technical operation of the ACLU's Internet and Intranet Websites and electronic communication tools (e.g. listservs). The Internet Operations Manager will address technical and administrative issues of the Websites in support of staff focused on Website design and content and serve as the liaison with technology vendors and ACLU employees. More specifically, the Internet Operations Manager will:
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee the administration and maintenance of the ACLU's Internet and Intranet Websites and resolve related technical problems.
Serve as the internal project manager for Web-related development and enhancement projects.
Consult with all administrative and program departments to coordinate ongoing enhancements and maintenance of the Websites, including serving as point person for all ACLU personnel in creating and maintaining processes/procedures for Website information; training staff on the use of and troubleshooting problems with the Content Management Systems and online fundraising and activism tools; and collaborating with IT and program staff to troubleshoot, test and oversee the launch of new Website products.
Serve as an interface between vendors, ACLU employees and Website visitors, including but not limited to working with external vendors on technology improvements requested by ACLU employees and users, and solving problems (e.g., corrupted content, security breaches, software failures, hardware malfunctions, and browser compatibility issues).
Implement and monitor security and privacy policies as it applies to the Website.
Provide input on the Websites' architecture, systems design and development, operation, policies and procedures.
Identify the need for and support the creation of monthly reports for ACLU management about Website visitors and online activity (e.g., traffic volumes, online registrations, donations/advocacy actions and other engagements, popular search strings, popular issues, website downtime).
Provide strategic advice on web technologies and operations.
Provide technical oversight of ACLU Intranet and listservs.
Track and budget Website-related expenses.
Supervise Internet Support staff.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Four to six years of technical experience with the Web, specifically with public Web sites, Intranets, e-communications and online transaction tools.
Bachelors degree required.
Experience in developing requirements for and in selecting Web technologies.
Experience managing CMS and eCRM systems and rights and permissions.
Project management experience, specifically with Website development projects.
Command of current programming technologies, such as HTML, Javasript, CSS, DHTML and XML required.
Understanding of server-side web scripting languages such as ASP and PHP preferred.
Familiarity with web and database server administration: Linux Apache, mySQL, Microsofts Internet Information Services and Microsoft SQL Server preferred.
Familiarity with web security and privacy issues.
Strong administrative and project management skills to carry out and direct the efforts of various vendors, co-workers, and staff to continuously update the functionality of the websites.
