On my Mail 2.1 on OSX 10.4.8 you have the option of having all of the inboxes show up as one. The "Inbox" folder is at the top, and you can either view it as one big Inbox, or click on the triangle and expose each inbox separately. The same thing affects other folders like Drafts, Sent, etc.
Currently I have to use Thunderbird for work, and Mail for personal, and there's no comparison between the two-- Mail is better designed, faster, and the clear winner.
