I have two linksys wrt54g (v3 and v5). Had all kinds of issues with
the default firmware. If you upgrade your firmware, that should do
the trick. I did that and it worked. However, I wanted more
functionality so flashed Hyperwrt+Thibor on the v3 and dd-wrt mini on
the v5 (as a client bridge). I've have zero problems whatsoever.

I've been usign the DD-WRT firmware for my Linksys. It allows you customize
a lot of the settings including the timeout for connections. You can also
configure it to reboot the router at preset times.
