Job Title: IS Developer
Job Description: The IS Developer will work closely with the IT/IS
team to plan, program and implement information technology systems,
databases and business applications to support a variety of
organizational needs. The IS Developer is primarily responsible for
designing and programming applications in a Microsoft-centric
environment (SharePoint Portal Server, Windows SharePoint Services,
SQL Server, Active Directory) in order to meet programmatic needs and
provide solutions to business problems. Example initial projects
include developing a contracts database, a helpdesk ticket tracking
system and an inventory management system. The IS Developer will work
closely with the IS Project Manager to create specifications for
business applications; complete development tasks, including
programming, database design and user interface design; document
applications in accordance with organizational standards; ensure
compatibility with other systems and existing IT infrastructure; and
provide ongoing user support to resolve problems with these products.
This position is also responsible for developing and managing
databases on SQL Server; researching, evaluating and installing web
parts on the SharePoint Portal Server; and providing general technical
support on the SharePoint Portal Server, Windows SharePoint Services
and SQL Server. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in
computer science, information science or a related field; advanced
coursework in programming or database development is preferred; five
or more years of demonstrated ability in programming, relational
database design and/or application development; proven knowledge of
Microsoft web development technologies, SharePoint Portal Server and
SQL Server; Microsoft certification is a plus; other programming and
database experience—particularly PHP, XML and MySQL—is a definite
plus; familiarity with Microsoft IIS 6.0, FrontPage, InfoPath, Active
Directory, Exchange Server and/or SQL Server administration are
pluses; knowledge of and experience with UML and use cases and
metadata schemas preferred; highly motivated with the ability to adapt
to different technical environments and tools; willingness to research
new and different technologies to find the best, most cost-effective
solution; ability to translate knowledge of general programming
principles to the acquisition of new programming languages; enthusiasm
for highly collaborative work, including serving on teams of people
from diverse backgrounds and areas of specialization; independent
worker who is able to meet deadlines, set and re-order priorities and
manage multiple tasks.
