There's been some interesting random stuff come across my desk lately, and thought someone on this list might have time to waste.

Longer needles needed for fatter buttocks

"Standard-sized needles failed to reach the buttock muscle in 23 out of 25 women whose rears were examined after what was supposed to be an intramuscular injection of a drug."

Star Wreck In the Pirkinning
Star Wreck in the Pirkinning is finally out, and its the best fan- produced science fiction I've ever seen. A blend of both Babylon 5 and Star Trek, it parodies both as the two sides fight each other. The special effects are on-par with the original B5 series, and I seriously doubt if someone else has produced incredibly elaborate space fight scenes on a render farm in their kitchen. Typically fan fiction also has bad direction and bad audio and bad acting, which make it difficult to follow. The direction and audio quality are quite good, making it easier to take the acting. The movie is in Finnish, but even the english subtitles are funny, with "phasers" translated as "twinklers".

At 1 hour, 40 minutes, this is a major effort. This proves to me that the cost of producing quality science fiction entertainment has fallen to the point where an enterprising group could do an end-run around the traditional media and do a serial directly to viewers over the internet.

Tiki Bar TV
The monthly Tiki Bar TV podcast is an example of an independently produced video show. Its only about 5 minutes long, and comes out once a month, but its funny and has a certain charm. I read somewhere it was now the #1 podcast on iTunes...

If you put up a large switch in a cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying "End-
of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH", the paint wouldn't even have time
to dry. -- Pratchett
