I used http://www.nc123.com/ to check up on a prospective nanny. The problem mainly is you have to have a social to make sure its the same person. There were so many people with the same name, even though it looked fairly unique.
At the time you couldn't look outside of NC, but they support out of state searches now, but you still have the same problem.
