...the abbreviated version of the history of the musical, "Assassins," ...Sondheim's piece is based on a Carnegie Mellon graduate student's 'musical' (circa 1978). The original NYC production of the Sondheim show opened at the Players Horizons theater, and quickly closed in (circa) 1992. A new production was scheduled to open in October, 2001. However, the producers decided no way would that be a good time for a musical on the topic of the American Presidential Assassinations.
So now, here it is again! This one is even more bizarre than Sweeny Todd, but I'm wondering, will it resonate with the current climate?
I'm going to be very curious to see if this plays, how audiences react.
