So who's received a new wireless meter reader from Duke Power?
They've been in use elsewhere in the country for a few years now. I'm not
finding anything useful online, but I have to wonder if anyone has tried
hacking these things yet. Back in the day, you'd just stick a strong
magnet on top of your reader to keep the little wheel from turning (or was
that just urban legend?) But now the meter-guy is just going to drive
through the neighborhood to receive signals from everyone's meters. How's
he to know that signal coming from my house isn't the meter but my own
emitter, one that says I really don't use that much electricity?

You know, one day there's gonna be some post on Slashdot about some guy getting mistakenly raided by the DEA for a suspected pot-growing operation because the 15 year-old next door spoofed his neighbor's signal and sent some really large value across the airwaves.
