Job Title: Database Administrator / Programmer
Job Description: The Information and Technology Coordinator reports to
the Director of Online Services within the UNC Office of the President
(UNC-OP) and to the Executive Director of the UNC Shared Services
Alliance (SSA); this position is responsible for managing or
participating in a broad range of projects and initiatives in support
of the Office of the President and the sixteen campuses of UNC.




This position provides consulting, problem-solving, and training
support to campuses and UNC-OP offices; supports the UNC Shared
Services Alliance’s technology projects and web sites; and supports
other database initiatives for the University of North Carolina and
affiliated institutions. The successful candidate will work
independently, be self-directed, and be capable of suggesting
effective technical approaches to meet user requirements.



Data
Administration and Database Management:

Coordinating initiatives
in support of UNCs e-Learning strategies, portal applications,
administrative systems, and data management.
Maintaining and
documenting information sets stored in relational database management
system.
Supporting information gathering and sharing activities, as
well as enhancing communication on e-Learning, data management,
administrative systems and portal issues.
Frequent interaction with
clients to properly formulate requirements and specifications; provide
consultation and assistance to guide clients toward technical and
procedural solutions to problems.
Technology Management:


Supporting and managing database application development,
including: overseeing needs assessment, design, and detailed
specifications; and supervising development processes.
Supporting
UNC’s Shared Services Alliance in deploying enterprise database
solutions and SCT Banner implementation.
Supporting UNC-OP web portal
initiatives.
Analyze system performance and recommend
equipment/software selection and tuning to assure optimal efficiency
and performance. Database administration. Assisting Systems
Administrator in maintaining database servers as required.
Other
Related Duties as Assigned.

Serves as the technical leader of data
administration tasks. Will provide supervision and guidance to others
in regards to database administration; provide direction through the
full range of database administrative tasks including: database
design, integration of data-elements spanning a variety of separate
internal and campus systems, developing standards for database
maintenance of software systems, consulting with campus Applications
Development Managers and other technical staff on techniques for data
base access, integration of local database systems with host systems,
and assuring their integrity and security; to perform managerial
functions over staff members in temporary organizational structures
related to long-term major systems development projects; and to
provide technical supervision to computing support staff on client
campuses.
