kmmail is a web based mail application written in php.

Thus, assuming that you have Apache installed with modPHP, and that
Apache has been configured to allow user directory access, there is no
reason I am aware of that you shouldn't be able to install it in your
home directory and run it successfully.

Check your home directory for a directory called public_html, if it
isn't there, create it and place a test.php file in it. You should be
able to view that file from your browser with a uri that looks
something like: http://localhost/~allan/test.php.

If the above works, Apache has been configured to allow you access to
your home dir. Place the kmmail code in ~/public_html/kmmail (or even
better, create a soft link). From your browser, open the uri
http://localhost/~allan/kmmail/

Anything that doesn't work at this point is probably just a
configuration issue.

good luck,
C
