With regard to previous messages about literacy, people from Literacy
Council of Wake County and Orange County Literacy Council have registered.
While we don't have them on the program this year, you might enjoy talking
with them about their work. The literacy councils often use computers to
help people increase their reading skills and learn computer skills at the
same time. See "Using Technology to Teach Adult Literacy" at

"Bridging North Carolina's Digital-Human Divide"
The William and Ida Friday Center
Friday, May 30, 2003, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
http://www.rtpnet.org/rtpconf/

Effective use of Information Technology is necessary to succeed,
particularly in todays challenging economy. A major divide exists between
the people who have computer and telecommunications technology, and many
who don't have this equipment and the skills to use it.

Join members of the North Carolina community for this one-day conference
to share perspectives and practical means of bridging the Digital Divide.

Individuals and representatives of non-profit and social services groups
that provide access to computers and training are encouraged to attend.
Educators, librarians, and computer specialists who want to contribute to
this effort will gather at the Friday Center to examine issues and
solutions surrounding delivery and use of IT communications tools.

This is RTPnet's fourth annual conference on bridging the digital divide.
RTPnet is a community network for the Triangle area (www.rtpnet.org).
