ha! mother nature strikes out at technology ;-)

As it turns out, the problem was later discovered to be spread through a few
neighborhoods - don't know if they've fixed it completely yet, as it was up
and down late last night and back up early this morning. But i must say
that the NC RR tech support was MUCH more cooperative and informative than i
ever remember them being in the past.

Sarah,

You can't possibly know how your message is so true.
Time Warner technician came to my house last week to fix my
broken connection, and found all equipment in perfect order,
EXCEPT the cable in the crawl space was completely chewed out
in few places, and was holding only by one single strand of the
inner core. When he replaced the damaged part, everything was fine.

thanks, Maria, Michael and Ed. we rebooted on our end a few times, but it
didn't work - and the guy said he didn't see a signal on his end... perhaps
the squirrels have spring fever and have been jumping up and down too much
on the wire coming to the house.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Recession Over, Triangle InterNetWorkers Says
Time For AdventureGathering!

Bynum, NC, April 17, 2003 -- Thanks to the generous sponsorship of
HireNetworks and the organizational blizzard known as Gina Norman, the first
AdventureGathering will take place at 7:00 p.m., May 1st at Adventure Landing,
located in Raleigh, NC. Techies will congregate for an evening of Go-Kart
Racing, Laser Tag, Miniature Golf and socializing. Attendees will enjoy
reduced group rates on food and activity passes. All details:

http://www.ibiblio.org/internetworkers/meeting

As a special treat, 15 activity passes -- a retail value of almost $20 each
-- will be given away through a drawing of all "affirmative" RSVPs received by
April 28th. RSVPers do NOT need to have a prior affiliation with Triangle
InterNetWorkers to qualify for the drawing. Details and restrictions:

http://www.ibiblio.org/internetworkers/meeting#giveaway

The event is sponsored by HireNetworks, the great Strategic Recruiting,
Staffing and HR Consulting Firm based right here in the Triangle. HireNetworks
believes in building relationships, which has paid dividends in the form of
some of the most interesting placements available today. But their approach
extends beyond the corporations they serve to the talent they recruit. They're
looking to help us build our careers over the long-term. HireNetworks is a
great bunch of people and it's great to have them involved in this event.

The AdventureGathering will celebrate the end of the current recession. In a
report issued earlier this week, Dr. Joe Uzoma Matusiabeckett, Chair of the
Triangle InterNetWorkers Special Committee on Economic Affairs (TISCEA),
declared that the recession will end on May 1st:

"Look, something's gotta be said. Everyone we've talked to is sick of this
economic downturn garbage. (Margin of error: ~4.3%.) It's time to put a fork
in this recession and call it done. This whole mess is soooo 2001. No one
wants this downturn to go on. (Margin of error: ~5.6%.) So we went to the
library and after just an hour or so, we found a strong correlation between
go-kart racing and economic recoveries. Since the invention of go-cart racing,
the early months of all economic recoveries have seen instances of people
strapping themselves to small gas powered vehicles and romping around tracks
with abandon. (Margin of error: ~3.1%.) This will happen at Adventure Landing
on May 1st, which is as good a time as easy to put this sorry economy on
notice. We're all tired of the malaise and we're not standing for it any
longer. (Margin of error: ~6.7%.) We've had some critics scoff at our
findings, saying 'correlation, not causation.' But even in the worst of
times, we all still have to get out, enjoy the spring weather, play some
games, talk to some old friends and meet some new ones. (Margin of error:
~0.0%.)"

So there.

And now, the credits. Thanks to Gina Norman, Jennifer Richardson of
HireNetworks and Chip Knighton of Adventure Landing. We couldn't have done
it without you!

Triangle Internetworkers is a loosely formed and purposed organization that
has been networking triangle techies together since 1998. It organizes
peer-to-peer networking gatherings once a month throughout North Carolina's
Triangle region. Triangle InterNetWorkers consists of multiple email lists,
including a low volume announce-only list and a free-form discussion list.
Members also participate in web site development and open source projects.
