The NC*SA steering committee has a excellent speaker available for our
December meeting; Curtis Leary of Grounding Solution Services, Inc. has
offered us a presentation on electrical power issues. The exact
presentation hasn't been set, but will include a subset of:

alternating current
single phase current and why it's used
three phase current and why it's used
the names and functions of conductors (hot, neutral, ground)
devices that distribute power within a building
common faults, malfunctions, and their prevention, diagnosis and
correction,
including:
bad wiring
uneven load
power line disruption (e.g.lightning)
harmonic currents in neutral lines
statististics, if available, about such failures:
how often do they occur?
how long do they last?
the expertise Grounding Solution Services, Inc. provides
circumstances in which we'd want to make use of it

The December meeting has traditionally had a lower attendance due to its
proximity to the holidays; however, this year the meeting date falls
fairly early in the month, so we're not sure whether it would be as much
of an issue this year as in years past. We'd like to determine whether to
hold the December meeting or to see if this speaker could present sometime
in 2003 instead.

So, we're asking for feedback. If you would attend the presentation above
at the NC*SA meeting on December 9th, please hit Reply and let us know
that! We need to hear from you before next Saturday (November 23rd),
please.

If we get enough interest, we'll go ahead with the December meeting; if
not, we'll cancel the December meeting and attempt to reschedule Mr. Leary
for a later date. (Also, if you have input on particular topics related
to power that are of interest to you, please let us know and we can pass
that on to Mr. Leary.)

Thanks for helping us most effectively arrange our schedule...

Regards,

Lisa
